Denver International Airport may consider accommodating a new regional facility on Concourse A for Frontier Airlines as the Denver-based carrier grows.
“Obviously we’ve got growth,” said Frontier Airlines spokesman Joe Hodas. The carrier has ordered 10 new Q400 turboprop planes and is starting a subsidiary to fly to Rocky Mountain destinations with the planes.
It also plans to expand its fleet of 70-seat regional jets to as many as 20 aircraft and is seeking a new regional-jet operator to replace Horizon Air.
“Certainly we’re going to need some space for that to work,” though nothing formal is planned at this point, Hodas said. However, the facility might house waiting areas for passengers and additional parking spaces for planes.
Frontier JetExpress regional jet flights operated by Horizon Air use a pad at the east end of Concourse A. Discussions on an expanded facility are in a preliminary stage.
DIA also expects to issue a request for proposals for a terminal hotel within weeks.
