Colorado Springs – Mike Testwuide scored two goals Friday night and three other Colorado College skaters recorded a goal and an assist as the Tigers defeated the University of Denver 5-1.

Colorado College (9-5-1, 6-3-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association), which has won six of its past seven games, snapped a seven-game winless streak against its instate rival.

“The crowd got us going, the power play got us going, and the goal with 36 seconds remaining (in the second) was big for us,” CC coach Scott Owens said. “Things went our way tonight.”

Scott McCulloch opened the scoring with his team-leading 12th goal of the season in the first period, and the Tigers put the game away by scoring three goals in the final 7:43 of the second, including a goal by sophomore Chad Rau in the waning seconds of the period that gave the Tigers a 4-0 edge.

Tigers senior goaltender Matt Zaba recorded 27 saves and also posted an assist on Testwuide’s second goal. DU (9-5-1, 5-3-1) avoided the shutout on a goal by sophomore defenseman Chris Butler with 9:45 remaining.
