With style so readily accessible and affordable these days, how does a woman maintain her individuality? Shopping at specialty stores lets her dress up in looks not everyone else is going to have.
From figure-flattering jeans to novelty knits and one-of a-kind jewelry, these stores give women a stylish leg up on the competition. And they’re popping up all over the Front Range.
Robin Bairstow recently opened Rebel in Greenwood Village’s Cherry Hills Marketplace (5910 S. University Blvd., 720-283-1004) to bring denim labels like True Religion and sportswear from Twill 22 to cool moms in the ‘burbs.
Nearby at Moxie (5936 S. Holly St., 303-694-0773), the focus is on personal service and helping customers put outfits together for everything for coffee with a girlfriend (Joe’s jeans, Michael Stars tees) to dressy parties (Oska separates) and Colorado winters (M. Miller quilted jackets).
In northwest Denver’s hot Berkeley neighborhood, Elsye Burja is offering some of the coolest shoes we’ve seen in ages at Strut (3877 Tennyson St., 303-477-3361,
strutdenver.com) We could live in her stylish Biviel flats but are secretly coveting anything by Chie Mihara, a high-end Spanish line.
A couple of doors down, Ann Thibert runs Max & Me (3867 Tennyson St., 303-455-9663). Named for her nephew, the store has an eclectic assortment of kids clothes and accessories, toys, home décor items and women’s lines like Serfontaine jeans, Margaret O’Leary sweaters and Scanty and Om Girl separates.
Speaking of Max, we have to mention Max Martinez’s outlet store in West Highland (3617 W. 32nd Ave., 303-433-7253). This location sells the looks that didn’t fetch full price at his other three stores. Check out half-price Mulberry handbags, Missoni dresses and Chip & Pepper jeans.
Girls love to get gifts from Larimer Square shops, and among the newest is Loft. 22, (1410 Larimer St., 303-893-5010). Sisters Brittin and Kelly Asbury sell clothes from Kenzie and French Connection, gifts and home items.
Boulder’s caught indie fever too with Besos’ opening last month on the east end of Pearl (1949 Pearl St., 303-304-3300; besosboulder
.com) Dana Culbertson and Stephanie McKay, who also own the popular JJ Wells boutique, feature younger contemporary lines at the new location. Taverniti jeans and Hale Bob dresses are among the labels to swoon over.
