CC’s Rau, Sweatt earn WCHA honors

Colorado College’s Chad Rau and Lee Sweatt were named Western Collegiate Hockey Association offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively. Both played big parts in the Tigers’ 5-1 and 3-2 victories against the University of Denver last weekend.

Rau, a sophomore, had in a hand in both game-winning goals, including scoring the winner late in the series finale to break a 2-2 tie. Sweatt, a senior, scored two power-play goals and was a plus-5 in the series.

Outlaws deal Rewkowski to Jersey for Gillette

The Denver Outlaws traded Tuesday for defensive- minded midfielder Paul Gillette after the Major League Lacrosse supplemental draft. Denver sent midfielder Matt Rewkowski (11 goals, 12 assists in 11 games in 2006) to New Jersey for Gillette, a former Baltimore player selected by New Jersey with the fifth overall pick in Tuesday’s draft.

“Paul is scrappy and a hustler; he’s a player we need to get the ball to our offense,” Outlaws general manager Brian Reese said.

Outlaws faceoff specialist Chris Cercy, who was left unprotected by Denver because of his retirement intentions, was selected in the fifth round by New Jersey. Denver used its first pick, in the second round, to reacquire midfielder Greg Bastis.

Denver drafted nine players, primarily defenders. Training camp begins April 28.
