Get the chance to see owls, eagles and hawks close up during the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program’s open house today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the program celebrates its temporary move into larger quarters.

Bring your camera and photograph 32 of the agencies’ non-releasable raptors that are used for educational programs. Meet the handlers of these magnificent birds and walk through the new center at 720B E. Vine Drive, just north of downtown Fort Collins.

Just a few steps away is 27 acres of property that will be the future home of the raptor rehabilitation, wildlife and education center.

Raptor illustrator Joyce Mihran Turley of Fort Collins will sign copies of “Awesome Ospreys – Fishing Birds of the World” from 1 to 3 p.m.

This year, the program expects to treat 265 sick and injured birds, a 13 percent increase from 2005, says Bob Francella of the program.

You can adopt a raptor for donations of $50 to $1,000. Depending on the level, donors will receive a photo and history of the bird, feed the bird or participate in the raptor’s release.

The program also needs to build flight cages for the new facility. Volunteers of all skill levels are asked to call 970-297-0398 for information on how to help.
