Zach Donaldson and Matt Yemm will not have far to go to pursue their college football careers.

The seniors at Fort Collins High School completed their recruiting trips Sunday to Colorado State and decided to orally commit to the Rams, according to Lambkins coach Eric Rice.

Donaldson, a 6-foot-1, 197-pound running back-safety and the son of former 10-year NFL and University of Colorado defensive back Jeff Donaldson, and Yemm, a 6-0, 180 quarterback, helped Fort Collins to the Class 5A semifinals last month, a 12-1 record, and the Front Range League title.

Crush signs three players; Peaua returning

The Colorado Crush signed BJ Dean, a rookie fullback-linebacker, and wide receivers Triandos Luke and Willie Quinnie.

Dean started in 23 games at Florida State, scoring four touchdowns with 95 yards on 33 carries. Luke was a 2004 draft pick for the Broncos, mostly playing on special teams, where he returned 15 kickoffs for 306 yards. Quinnie played last season with the Green Bay Packers.

The club also re-signed fullback-linebacker John Peaua, who has spent the past four seasons with the Crush. Last season, he had four touchdowns and 55 rushing yards.

Durango runner dies in Tucson Marathon

Marc D. Witkes of Durango died less than a quarter mile from the finish line in the Tucson Marathon on Sunday. Though he had run the race several times before, Witkes, 40, collapsed, and by the time paramedics arrived he was in cardiac arrest.

Regis men’s soccer coach McDowell resigns

Matt McDowell has resigned as the coach of the Regis University men’s soccer team. In the seven years he spent with the Rangers, the team was 62-57-12. Assistant coach Keith Tiemeyer has been named the interim head coach, while a national search for a permanent head coach will begin early in 2007.

* After helping lead the Metro State women’s soccer team to a second Division II championship, Rachel Zollner, Kylee Hanavan and Kira Sharp have earned NSCAA/Adidas All-America first-team honors, and Nicole Cito was named to the second team. It is the first time in program history that the team had four players earn All-America honors.

* Air Force freshman right wing Jeff Hajner was named the Atlantic Hockey Association rookie of the week. Hajner had three points in two wins over Connecticut last week, including assisting on the game-winner in Thursday’s 4-2 victory. Hajner is the Falcons’ top scoring rookie with three goals and eight assists.
