Gov.-elect Bill Ritter made more appointments to his senior staff Monday, naming two deputy chiefs of staff.

Stephanie Villafuerte was named deputy chief for outreach and administration, and Kenneth C. Weil will oversee policy and initiatives.

The two are long-time Ritter allies. Villafuerte worked under Ritter, a former Denver district attorney, for nine years, first as a deputy district attorney and later as a chief deputy. She also worked on the campaign and is now coordinator for the transition team.

Villafuerte was the lead prosecutor in the 2005 trial of convicted serial rapist Brent J. Brents.

In her new role, “she will help ensure that everyone and anyone who would like to have access to or communicate with the governor’s office will have that ability,” Ritter spokesman Evan Dreyer said.

Weil, who has known Ritter for 20 years, spent 19 years in health care before co-chairing Ritter’s gubernatorial bid and heading up his policy team.

A former policy advisor to Democratic Gov. Dick Lamm, Weil was founder and president of Rose Biomedical Research and Rose Biomedical Development Corp.

Weil and Villafuerte were unavailable for comment, Dreyer said.
