Washington – Capitol Hill veteran Jeff Lane will be Sen. Ken Salazar’s next chief of staff.

Salazar, D-Colo., announced the appointment Thursday.

Lane was chief of staff for former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., until 2002, when he became an attorney for the law firm Womble, Carlyle, Sand ridge and Rice.

Previously, Lane worked in senior staff positions for Sen. Jim Sasser, D-Tenn., and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., and as a lawyer for the Small Business Administration. He is a 1985 graduate of the Duke University School of Law.

“Jeff brings a wealth of experience, and he will be a force multiplier for Colorado,” Salazar said. “His well-rounded professional career makes him second to none.”

Lane replaces Coloradan Ken Lane, who returned to his home state in November to work as the senator’s senior counsel in Denver. Salazar said he would remain a key adviser.

“(Ken Lane) will help develop legislative priorities for Colorado and oversee the senator’s legislative record,” Salazar spokesman Cody Wertz said.
