Centennial – James David Meyer, the 15-year-old accused of killing his sister and burning the family garage to mask the crime, will spend Christmas in jail.
A hearing on his bond and the evidence against him was postponed this morning until Jan. 8, for further “tests.”
Prosecutors and defense lawyers huddled privately with Judge James Wheeler before he granted the delay.
Meyer has been in jail since August. He sat emotionless in the witness box for a half hour today awaiting his case to begin, and never looked at his mother, Elaine Meyer, in the front row of the courtroom.
His sister, Jessica Meyer, 13, died June 7. Her body was found in the family garage, which had been set ablaze. James was found later at a neighbor’s house playing video games, police said.
Before discussing further tests in private with prosecutors and the judge, defense attorney Jim McKnight said James was doing well with his court-appointed tutor, with help from the Littleton School District.
“He’s tested out as a very intelligent young man,” McKnight told the judge.
