Who: Paul and Laurie Nowak of Denver with Kenan Thompson of “Saturday Night Live,” Sharon Honey Mushkin and Robbie Hahn of Denver
Where: Onstage at “Saturday Night Live” in New York City
Best meal: Chinatown Brasserie, a top new Asian restaurant, Lafayette and Great Jones (Third and Broadway). I loved the decor and the aroma of fresh Chinese food from the door. The service was A+. Specialties: dumplings, dumplings, dumplings. Very hip, cool, hot. Very beautiful late-night crowd, steps away from Chickilicious, New York’s greatest dessert restaurant. Best brunch: Bouchon Bakery, in the Time Warner Building on the third floor next to the CNN store. Best breakfast: CUB Room, in the heart of SoHo, on Prince Street. World’s greatest lox. Best slice of NYC: Famous Famiglia Pizza, “the real thing,” at 50th and Broadway, and in all the NYC airports. They say it’s the water that makes the dough so good. Best late-night dining: Carnegie Deli, 55th and 7th Ave., open until 4 a.m. Catch up with the night owls, celebs and partygoers over a pastrami sandwich and some chicken noodle soup, and don’t forget a slice of their world-famous cheesecake to share on the plane back to Denver.
Best deal: Canal Street, shopping at its best. If it’s got a designer label, you can find it here. If it doesn’t have a label you can find it here. Take in the fabulous people- watching and interesting artwork.
Best time to go: The fall is absolutely beautiful, and the autumn foliage in Central Park turns myriad colors in late October. The weather is cool, crisp and mild.
Best travel tip: Watching a broadcast live is a blast! It takes some planning. Apply for tickets in August for the fall season. Sometimes standby tickets are available. Get to the studio before 7 a.m. on the day of the show or apply online at snltickets@nbc.com.
