New Year’s Eve wouldn’t be the same without a dazzling display of pyrotechnics, and the Mile High City is happy to oblige.
Downtown Denver Inc., which is sponsoring the fifth annual fireworks display, will hold identical shows at 9 p.m. (for families) and again at midnight (for partyers) on Sunday night. The show will take place simultaneously from two locations along the 16 Street Mall.
The city expects about 185,000 people to flock to the Mall for both 10-minute shows, which cost $150,000 to produce last year. The money underwrites the fireworks and dozens of extra security officers hired to patrol the central business district. (Maybe it’s the result of residual holiday cheer, but few incidents were reported along the mall this year.)
Views from the 16th Street Mall and around the central business district will be best, but many folks will crowd onto bar and condo rooftops to watch the fireworks reflect off the glass-walled buildings. Arrive downtown at least 30 minutes early to find a spot that works for you.
