An Arapahoe County District judge has agreed to extend the grand jury investigation into the disappearance of Aarone Thompson for another six months.

The extension was requested by Arapahoe County assistant district attorney Leslie Hansen.

Aarone Thompson would have been 6 years old when her father reported her missing on Nov. 14, 2005. Investigators combed the area for three days, then suspended the search and declared it a homicide investigation.

The little girl was never found.

The father, Aaron Thompson, 39, told police he hadn’t seen his daughter for more than a year, not since Halloween, 2004. He refused to talk with police and lawyered up.

Thompson and his live-in girlfriend, Shelley Lowe, had eight other children between them, excluding Aarone. They have been living in foster homes since Aarone was reported missing.

Lowe died in May, 2006, of heart disease.

The grand jury investigating the case was due to disband this month. District Attorney Carol Chambers said two months ago she hoped to have an indictment by now and would continue the investigation of the grand jury hadn’t concluded its work by now.
