Breckenridge – The scion of a prominent local family beat his girlfriend so badly she needed emergency surgery to save her life, and he later sexually assaulted her in the hospital, according to an arrest affidavit.
Erik Sigurdson Rockne, 39, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder, assault, intimidating a victim, false imprisonment, false reporting to authorities and domestic violence in the Nov. 29 attack.
Rockne, son of Breckenridge ski area founder Sigurd Rockne, posted $100,000 bond Monday. He could not be reached for comment but has denied wrongdoing in phone calls with police.
According to the affidavit, the woman originally told investigators that an unknown man had attacked her on the street.
On Friday, however, she indicated that she and Rockne – her boyfriend of four years – had argued at a restaurant and that he attacked her when they entered his home.
“She was hit from behind with a hard object and knocked unconscious,” the affidavit states.
When she woke up, she begged to be taken to the hospital, but he refused, the affidavit said. She tried crawling away when he fell asleep, but he had hidden her shoes, coat and cellphone.
When he found the injured woman, he dragged her to the bedroom and sexually assaulted her, according to the affidavit.
Eventually, he left the house, and she managed to call a taxi to drive her to the hospital.
On the second day that she was in the intensive-care unit, he “forced her to orally copulate him while she was still intubated,” according to the affidavit.
