Man-about-town Josh Hanfling is slinging hash. Well, make that pasta. The chrome-domed habitué of many a restaurant and bar in Denver is now a partner in Campo de Fiori in Cherry Creek North.
Campo’s owner Elizabeth Giordani sent out an e-mail blast late Wednesday that told the minions that Hanfling was taking some ownership in the Denver op and would become a presence there.
(Elizabeth and estranged husband Luigi also have Campos in Aspen and Vail.)
“We believe that Josh will add a personalization and energy to the restaurant reminiscent of the first few years we were in business,” she wrote.
Josh said Elizabeth did not want to divulge any financial details of his involvement.
Hanfling says he’ll be in the house most every night, but not all night.
“The beauty of this is I’m doing the same thing I’m doing every night in restaurants, but I’m making money and I don’t have to pay for dinner.”
Action!
Hollywood comes back to Boulder next month with the filming of key scenes for an upcoming James Ivory flick.
The movie is “The City of Your Final Destination.” Anthony Hopkins is one of the stars, but he won’t be in Boulder. Laura Linney, Omar Metwally and Charlotte Gainsbourg should be.
Crews will be in the college town the first week in February to shoot exterior and interior shots. CU-Boulder’s Dirk Martin told me he was meeting with the movie-makers Thursday to look at some sites on campus.
The movie actually comes down at the University of Kansas – they just have to point the camera away from the Flatirons.
Recent Hollywood visits to Colorado include a few days shooting Josh Hartnett’s “Resurrecting the Champ” last summer in Denver – with a scene at Elway’s with John Elway. “Champ” debuts at Sundance this month. And a crew filmed Jennifer Garner in Boulder in 2005 in “Catch and Release,” which is set for release Jan. 26.
Bennet
Readers of The New Yorker this week will find a 14-page story on Denver Public Schools Superintendent Michael Bennet, the closing of Manual High and the doings of some of its former students. Bennet comes off as a guy trying to make it work.
My favorite quote from Bennet: “The examined life is not worth living.”
EATS!
Wow. Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder gets a heady 12-page story in the new Food & Wine magazine – stuffed with pics and recipes. It’s all about how great the restaurant is and how much fun co-owners Bobby Stuckey and Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson have at a winter cookout.
