Sonny Lubick’s long-promised tweaks in the Colorado State football staff will lend more concentration to the offense while divvying up special teams. Overall, however, the staff remains unchanged for the second straight offseason.
Defensive ends coach Jesse Williams, going into his ninth year with the Rams, takes over the tight ends, H-backs and blocking backs from Dave Arnold, as well as some special-teams assignments.
Third-year coach Karl Ballard, who was instrumental in the vast improvement on the interior defensive line this past season, will take over the front four.
Arnold will concentrate on holders, snappers, punters and kickers, all areas where the Rams have had shortcomings.
“Sometimes it’s good to change guys around, and it sparks a whole new attitude,” Lubick said Thursday.
The head coach will continue to help out in the secondary, but added, “I plan to learn more about the offense and get more involved in the offense.”
