DID YOU KNOW
What did they say?
The state legislature is beginning a new session, and the Democratic National Convention is coming to Denver. Here are some former Colorado political quotes of note.
RON STRAHLE
Former Republican state representative who served from 1967 to 1986 and was speaker of the House from 1977 to 1978.
“The legislature is the best proof that Colorado is not ready for representative government.”
JIM LILLPOP
Former state representative from Alamosa
“This legislature is composed of largely intelligent people. Some of them are large. Some of them are intelligent. Some are both. Some are neither.”
PAUL SCHAUER
Republican state representative from 1979 to 1998 and current University of Colorado regent
“The legislature is the only body in which the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.”
GARY HART
Former U.S. senator
“You know what ought to happen in this country to even things out? Reporters ought to have to run for office. Politicians ought to have to write political stories.”
