While the Rockies continue pursuing a trade for Baltimore’s Rodrigo Lopez, they increased their interest in starter Brian Lawrence on Thursday, making their first contract offer.
Colorado remains a favorite, given Lawrence’s desire to pitch in the National League West. The Padres, Mariners and Pirates also have submitted proposals, but no team has seen Lawrence throw more than the Rockies as he attempts to recover from shoulder surgery. The Padres and Rockies have offered minor-league deals.
“We have been waiting for Colorado,” agent Page Odle said. “We will now start reviewing everything.”
