BRECKENRIDGE – A son of one of the founders of Breckenridge ski area was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and 11 other crimes in a fight that left his girlfriend near death in November.

Erik Sigurdson Rockne, 39, faces a March 20 preliminary hearing after being informed of the charges, which also include sexual assault, assault, intimidating a witness and false imprisonment.

He is accused of attacking his longtime girlfriend on Nov. 30, leaving her with a ruptured bladder and other internal injuries, and then raping her while she begged him to bring her to a hospital, authorities said.

If convicted of all the charges, the son of ski-area founder Sigurd Rockne could be sentenced to prison for the rest of his life. He is free on $100,000 bond.
