Xcel workers were able to relight pilot lights and restart gas service Tuesday afternoon to the last of the estimated 2,000 Grand Junction-area customers who were without gas when a transmission line froze.
Xcel spokesman Fred Eggleston said workers brought in from around the state answered service calls or canvassed house- to-house in affected neighborhoods through Tuesday.
He said there were no reports of damage from the outage and no one sought help in a Red Cross shelter Monday night.
He said if the cold snap continues to drop morning temperatures below zero in the area, Xcel is “ready for it.” He said gas will be pulled from larger transmission lines if there should be another freeze in the small line that delivers gas over Douglas Pass.
Cold temperatures also caused problems at the Fruita 8/9 School on Tuesday. The school for eighth- and ninth-graders had no water because of frozen water pipes, and students were sent home.
