New Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun completed his staff Wednesday, hiring Clay Hendrix as offensive line coach and retaining Ron Burton as defensive line coach.

Burton has spent the past four seasons as defensive line coach under Fisher DeBerry. He also has coached at Grand Valley State and Indiana. Hendrix spent 19 seasons as offensive line coach at Furman and was assistant head coach the past five seasons.

DU coach Ashton headed to D.C. United

D.C. United of Major League Soccer hired longtime Denver-area coach and player Chad Ashton as an assistant. Ashton will leave his position as head coach of the University of Denver men’s team, a job he has held for 10 seasons. Ashton’s 85-85-14 record at DU capped the school’s second-longest soccer tenure and he was twice named conference coach of the year.

14ers win in matchup of division leaders

Five players scored in double figures for the Colorado 14ers as the team earned a 126-116 victory over the Eastern Division-leading Dakota Wizards (14-4) at the NBA Development League’s MLK Showcase in Sioux Falls, S.D. Colorado (14-6), the Western Division leader, was led by Elton Brown’s 25 points and eight rebounds.

Nelson, Wires shine at CHL All-Star Game

Riley Nelson of the Colorado Eagles started the scoring 2:25 into the game and later added an assist, and Mark Wires of the Rocky Mountain Rage had two goals and an assist to lead the Northern Conference team to a 9-6 victory over the Southern Conference in the Central Hockey League All-Star Game in Bossier-Shreveport, La.

The Broomfield Event Center and the Rocky Mountain Rage will host the 2008 CHL League All-Star Game, the league announced.
