“I read your column comparing quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Let’s talk about the facts. The Colts have more excuses than any team in sports, from New England manhandling Indianapolis receivers to the weather to the kicker. It’s never Manning’s fault, although he always seems to throw his teammates under the bus. When you talk about pressure and being clutch, there will be no other quarterback in history who will compare with Brady when his career is over. Brady’s game elevates when the pressure goes up; Manning’s takes two huge steps back.”
Gary, Boston
Kiz: Hey, don’t get me wrong. I love your man Tom. In fact, in my all-time Brady rankings, I’ve got him No. 2, ahead of Greg, but just a tad behind Marcia.
Superstar-lovin’ life
“You must have been stuffed in a lot of school lockers when you were a kid. Just because Brady happens to get the chicks doesn’t make him less of a quarterback or less than a winner. You sound jealous. In fact, I’m sure there’s a direct correlation between Super Bowl rings and hot dates. I’ll have to pull out my abacus to calculate the equation.”
Andy, Denver
Kiz: Except for those lingering nightmares of green Jello laced with canned fruit chunks and served in the cafeteria at lunch, all my childhood school memories are pleasant, thank you. Sure, the QB always gets the girl. But Brady might be the first player since Joe Namath who receives a bump in his quarterback rating because of his love life.
All washed up
“To purport that the success of Brady and the Patriots is based on luck is silly. The Broncos aren’t quite as lucky without John Elway at quarterback, are they?”
Bill, Whitinsville, Mass.
Kiz: Call me daffy, but I’ve got this theory. If Bill Belichick ever takes off his lucky gray sweat shirt, much less washes it, New England would turn into playoff patsies and he would be fired quicker than you could say “Art Shell.”
Good guy, this A.I.
“Would you agree that as a member of the Nuggets, Allen Iverson has been nothing but gracious, articulate and very open with you guys in the local media? I so far am very impressed with the way A.I. has handled himself both on and off the court.”
Kevin, Littleton
Kiz: Unless we’re talking about practiss, Iverson has always been one of the NBA’s more passionate analysts of a game he obviously loves. If A.I. were any more gracious since joining the Nuggets, we’d have to award him Webelo merit badges as a citizen, showman and scholar.
Parting shot
And today’s parting shot is a plea for action, with the murder of Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams almost three weeks old and still no arrests. While we grieve for Williams, let us remember far more Americans lose lives to murder on our own soil than fighting a war in Iraq.
“Athletes are motivated right now and they cannot lose this opportunity to establish something concrete that will make a dent into this very important problem of violence. It needs to be organized and set up like any other corporation. I know it can be done. People have to go into it without egos and let the memory of Williams be there forever.”
Mary, Littleton
