A police officer’s wife was fatally shot Tuesday outside a Greeley credit union where she worked, and authorities arrested a woman who was a former city dispatcher, Greeley officials said.
The victim was found in the parking lot of the credit union, at 25th Street and 11th Avenue, near the University of Northern Colorado, just after closing, said Greeley City Manager Roy Otto.
Police found Shawna Louise McKay, 35, the former wife of a sheriff’s deputy, sitting nearby in her car. She was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Otto informed Greeley City Council members of the shooting during a work session and notified them that the suspect also is the wife of a Weld County sheriff’s employee.
The victim was pronounced dead at North Colorado Medical Center, officials said. Authorities have not released her identity.
McKay is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
