After hosting California on Sept. 8 and visiting Berkeley in 2009, Colorado State will not play any teams from BCS conferences in the foreseeable future, besides the annual rivalry with Colorado.
CSU announced Thursday several opponent additions filling schedules through 2010 with the exception of one opening in 2009.
Perennial Division I-AA power Georgia Southern fills out this year’s schedule Nov. 17.
A home-and-away series with Idaho for 2009-10 and an extension of the Nevada series the same two years were also announced. CSU also has postponed a 2010 date at Miami, Ohio.
“We are trying to get the schedule set with six games in Fort Collins every year,” CSU athletic director Paul Kowalczyk said.
As for the 2009 vacancy, Kowalczyk said “You never know, but right now (a BSC school) is not the plan.”
The first-year AD has stated his goal of getting CSU into a BCS game. Besides winning out, a nonconference schedule against BCS teams is needed to help in the rankings.
“If we were to win all our games, we would get recognized,” Kowalczyk said, noting Mountain West Conference members Texas Christian and Brigham Young finished in the top 25, and that previously announced 2007-08 foe Houston, as well as Nevada, went to bowls last season.
CSU typically has trouble getting home-and-away series because of its 35,000-seat stadium. Cal, a potential preseason top-10 team, is only the second Pac-10 team to appear at Hughes Stadium.
