The families of two boys who were were hurt in a car crash gathered today, to express their support and admiration for the injured teens.

Members of Tyler Carron and Nikko Landeros’ families say the two are recovering as well as possible, after each losing a leg last week.

“Both boys are very, very strong and the most courageous boys I have every met,” said Lori Moriarity, Tyler’s aunt.

The boys were changing a tire on January 15th when they were hit around 11:30 p.m.

A 17-year-old classmate who has not yet been identified was the driver of the car who hit them on Larimer County Road 17, according to the State Patrol.

Both boys were athletes at Berthoud High School.

Classmates have rallied around the boys, helping to raise money for their medical costs.

A phone-a-thon on Monday raised more than $50,000 for their care.

Staff writer Monte Whaley contributed to this report.
