Frasca Food and Wine chef/owner Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson is taking fish to the Super Bowl in Miami.
At every Super Bowl, each NFL team sends a chef and a former player to the Taste of the NFL – a giant gala that comes down the night before the game. This year, about 3,000 people will pay $500-$600 each to attend the eat-a-thon in the convention center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Styx is the entertainment. Former Bronco Rich Jackson is our player rep.
This “Party with a Purpose” fights hunger through Second Harvest and it’s the Super Bowl’s biggest fundraiser – but it’s not always easy on the chef. It’s always overtime when you’re cooking for thousands of fans at an away game.
Kevin Taylor of Restaurant Kevin Taylor went to the event for a number of years. Frank Bonanno of Luca and Mizuna went to the games in 2005 and 2006.
Mackinnon-Patterson says he’s making baccala fritta, fried salt cod. “It’s awesome,” he said, “Like a fried-fish salad.”
He just wants to have fun, hang out with his brother (who’ll help him cook) and sit on the beach.
“I don’t care if I go to the game,” he says. “I’d rather eat stone crab, drink beer and watch the game at Joe’s.”
Strike!
John-Michael Liles, Ian Laperriere, Ken Klee, Brett McLean and other Avs players will go bowling Saturday at Lucky Strike Lanes at Denver Pavilions.
The Cruisin’ the Lanes Celebrity Bowling Tournament will benefit Hinote’s Heroes, started by former Av Dan Hinote to help kids with cancer at Children’s Hospital, where his sister Missy Christensen works. Foundations sponsored by musician Garth Brooks and Kroenke Sports also get help.
Tix are $100. For $3,500 you get a team of six with a player. Go to amberhomes.com.
Adding a little star power is Cassandra Whitehead, a contestant on “America’s Next Top Model” who walked off the show rather than have her hair cut and dyed a second time.
Foxxy attitude
Jamie Foxx comes to Denver on April 4 – but I’m not going. A recent performance at Madison Square Garden earned him this spanking from the N.Y. Times:
“Forget about false modesty, not to mention its nonfalse counterpart. Jamie Foxx came to Madison Square Garden on Monday night to celebrate his favorite singer, his favorite actor, his favorite comedian, his favorite sex symbol and his favorite storyteller, who all happen to share his name. Near the end, Mr. Foxx morphed into Ray Charles – only to thank himself for doing such a good job playing himself in ‘Ray.”‘
He’ll be at the Wells Fargo Theatre, tix $49.75-$69.75.
