A Broomfield resident was arrested Friday in a sting operation after he went to a Northglenn meeting place allegedly intending to have sex with a 13-year-old girl, police say.

Giridhar Ramasamy is under investigation on counts of using the Internet to lure a child, enticement of a child and attempted sexual assault on a child, said Northglenn police Sgt. Jeff Herronen.

Ramasamy was being held Saturday in the Adams County jail in Brighton.

Northglenn undercover police created a Web page posing as a 13-year-old girl, Herronen said. Ramasamy sent messages to the investigators, believing he was communicating with a young girl, Herronen said, and set up a meeting with her.

Ramasamy, who did not have a previous criminal record, is originally from India. He has been in the U.S. legally for three months on a work visa, said Rick Kellogg, Northglenn police spokesman.

Police are worried about 40-year-old predators posing as 16-year-old boys on the Internet, Kellogg said.

“Our biggest fear is that one of these guys will meet up with a young lady,” he said. “It’s the responsibility of parents to make sure kids are safe.”

Parents should know about their children’s online activities, Kellogg said.

About 90 percent of Internet predators roam online accounts searching for young victims, Kellogg said. Some websites like MySpace allow account holders to restrict anyone they don’t know from visiting, Kellogg said.
