Rockies belong in the minors

Let’s see if I’ve got this right. The Rockies had power but no speed (Blake Street Bombers). Then they acquired speed but no power (Juan Pierre, Neifi Perez). Then they had both, but at too high a price (Preston Wilson). Then they obtained pitching through free agency (Mike Hampton, Denny Neagle). Then they elected to develop their own pitching (Jason Jennings, Aaron Cook). Now the homegrown pitchers are successful and, therefore, cost too much. Then they needed fewer home runs (humidor). Now they can’t keep arguably one of the best players to don a Rockies jersey. Bring back the Denver Bears; at least they admitted they were a farm club.

Monfort just doesn’t get it

“If people want to say that we are a minor- league team for the Yankees … so be it” – Charlie Monfort, Rockies owner.

As a Denver native, I take full exception to Mr. Monfort’s quote in The Post on Feb. 1. The Denver Bears were a minor-league team to the Yankees in the ’50s. I watched them play here in 1955. Were you there too, Charlie? Today, the Rockies are a minor- league team to every major-league team. Check the lineups. Baseball here sure has come a long way, baby.
