Jack Hillen’s goal 1:29 into the second period proved the winner as Colorado College earned a 4-2 victory over Wisconsin on Saturday in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at the World Arena in Colorado Springs.
Matt Zaba made 30 saves to lead CC (16-10-2, 12-7-1). Braydon Cox and Cody Lampl each had a goal and an assist for the Tigers. Jake Dowell had a goal and an assist to lead the Badgers (11-15-2, 8-11-1).
Mercyhurst got a goal from Chris Trafford 1:01 into overtime to down Air Force 3-2 in an Atlantic Hockey Association game at Cadet Arena. The Lakers, 7-5 winners over the Falcons on Friday, earned a weekend sweep. Cullen Eddy tied the game for Mercyhurst (8-16-5, 8-12-3) at 2-2 with less than four minutes remaining. Brett Nylander and Mike Phillipich scored for Air Force (13-12-5, 10-7-5).
Wafer, Amundson spark 14ers’ victory
The Colorado 14ers of the NBA Development League got a game-high 27 points from Von Wafer and downed the Arkansas Rimrockers 137-129 in Broomfield.
Louis Amundson sparked the 14ers (19-8) with 20 points and 16 rebounds and Elton Brown added 21 points and 14 rebounds. Colorado continues to lead the Western Division, 1 1/2 games ahead of Idaho. Arkansas (7-18) is at the bottom of the Eastern Division.
UNC wrestlers down South Dakota State
The Northern Colorado wrestling team won four straight matches to complete a comeback for a 23-15 win Saturday over South Dakota State (8-5, 1-1 Western Wrestling Conference) in Brookings, S.D.
Heavyweight Reece Hopkin started the turnaround with a 14-6 major decision over South Dakota State’s Jason Stripling, and 125-pounder Tony Mustari brought the Bears (5-7, 2-2) back to within two points at 15-13 when the Jackrabbits’ Alan Marvin forfeited because of injury.
