Ivo Rueegg piloted Switzerland to a gold medal in the four-man bobsled Sunday at the world championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Switzerland was timed in 4:20.86, edging Pierre Lueders of Canada by 0.23 seconds. Germany’s Andre Lang, the Olympic gold medalist and defending champion, was third in 4:21.10.

Steve Holcomb, who had a thumb injury, was another 0.02 seconds behind for the U.S.

Luge: Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch won the men’s doubles race to capture Germany’s third gold medal at the luge world championships in Igls, Austria, with the United States finishing third.

In the women’s race, Tatjana Huefner led a top-four sweep for Germany as Erin Hamlin of the U.S. finished fifth.

Speedskating: Sven Kramer of the Netherlands won the 5,000-meter race at a World Cup event in Turin, Italy.

Kramer won in 6:18.31, only 0.21 seconds ahead of Carl Verheijen, who finished second. Eskil Ervik of Norway was third, 7.38 seconds back.

European champion Ireen Wust won the women’s 1,500 in 1:55.01. Anni Friesinger of Germany was second, 1.15 behind the Dutch skater, and Olympic champion Cindy Klassen was third, 1.37 back.

Ski jumping: Adam Malysz of Poland used a strong second leap to win his second World Cup event in two days in Titisee-Neustadt, Germany.

After tying the hill record with a leap of 145.0 meters Saturday, Malysz jumped 134.5 on his second attempt Sunday to win his 32nd World Cup meet.

Nordic combined: Bjoern Kircheisen of Germany won a World Cup event in Zakopane, Poland.

Biathlon: Norway’s Ole Einar Bjorndalen won his second gold medal in as many days at the world championships, adding the 12.5-kilometer pursuit to the 10K sprint in Anterselva, Italy.

Cross country: Russia won the 40-kilometer classical-free relay at a World Cup meet in Davos, Switzerland, and Sweden won the women’s 20K relay mixed style.

Snowboarding: Janne Korpi of Finland won a World Cup big-air event in Turin in which Finns took three of the top four spots.
