So much to love

With Wednesday being Valentine’s Day and all, let’s let the love shine through:

Opus restaurant in Littleton, which had been the site of their first date, was where Kimi Porterfield and Mike Brown had their engagement party last Saturday night. Though they had both attended Cherry Creek High School, Kimi and Mike were never more than passing acquaintances until a mutual friend reintroduced them at a University of Denver hockey game two years ago. She knew he was “a keeper” right off the bat, a feeling that intensified as he stayed right by her side during the difficult days leading up to the Aug. 31 death of her grandmother, Florence Ruston. Toasts to the young couple, who are planning a summer wedding in Vail, were given by her mother and stepfather, Adrienne and Jack Fitzgibbons; her father, Steve Porterfield; Mike’s mother, Mary Brown; and family friends Judi Wolf and Margot Gilbert Frank.

Riding elephants in Thailand and gliding through the canals of Venice in a gondola were just two of the highlights of a blissful, seven-week honeymoon for Perry Odak and the former Stephanie Doss. The former chief executive for Wild Oats market and his bride are now at home in Golden, where their first order of business is writing thank-you notes for the bounty of gifts given in celebration of their December wedding at Historic Trinity United Methodist Church.

Music, romance and dinner are on the agenda Friday – or at least that’s what the invitation says – when Stride hosts an Italian Valentine’s Extravaganza Dinner at Belmar Center in Lakewood. The 6:30 p.m. event will be catered by Tony Rosacci’s; sponsors include FirstBank, Wells Fargo, Citywide Banks, CHFA, Bank of the West and radio station 101.5 Martini on the Rockies. Stride is a Jefferson County-based program that helps women overcome poverty by learning skills that lead to meaningful jobs and personal strength. Call 303-366-7951, ext. 10.

Fashions from Talbot’s Kids will be modeled April 13 when Lyn Schaffer once again chairs the Little Hearts Luncheon at the Pepsi Center. It’s a benefit for The Children’s Hospital Heart Institute and puts present and former patients on the runway with a host of celebrity escorts. Call 720-917-1732.

A capacity crowd showed its love for area cancer patients by attending a wine tasting and silent auction Feb. 7 at the Phipps Mansion. Proceeds went to the Raymond Wentz Foundation, founded several years ago by Dr. David Schrier in honor of a former patient who struggled financially as he underwent cancer treatment. Schrier and his wife, Brenda, planned the event with help from Michelle Carter, Lisa Fallon, Lisa Gould, Suzanne MacKenzie, Jacque McIntyre, Kathie McKenzie, Amy Lemon, Cindy Read and Shelly Smith. Sponsors were Palace Construction, City Wine and Wine Merchants of Colorado.
