Carmelo Anthony received his free trip to Las Vegas. The Nuggets forward was named today as a injury replacement player for the Western Conference team for the Feb. 18 All-Star Game.

It’s the first time he has been selected for the game; he was part of the rookie challenge during the 2004 all-star weekend. Anthony is the league’s leading scorer a 30.8 points per game.

Also added to the Western Conference team was Dallas forward Josh Howard. NBA commissioner David Stern made the selections to replace Houston’s Yao Ming and Utah’s Carlos Boozer.

“I want to thank David Stern and all the people at the NBA for adding me to the team. I truly appreciate it,” Anthony said today.

Nuggets guard Allen Iverson was selected earlier this week as a reserve, but said he may not participate if his sprained ankle does not feel better by then.
