Dan Landes is trying to save Denver. If not from itself, from MTV.

The veteran restaurant guy owns WaterCourse Foods, the veggie institution that recently moved to 837 E. 17th Ave.

In its old spot, 206-214 E. 13th Ave., Landes has put in City, O’ City, a coffeehouse with some ‘tude.

“City, O’ City’s first mission is simple,” he proclaims. “To right the wrongs brought to this city by the cast of goofballs from MTV’s ‘Real World.”‘

Landes is upset that Denver was portrayed, and continues to be portrayed, “as a tarted up good-time gal.

It was like putting Wednesday Addams in a party dress. Denver has a proud reputation of being hard to get to know.

This city has never been easily accessible- it’s complicated and a little macabre. Before we can allow Denver to become the generic ideal of a prosperous city, independent businesses must make a stand and provide interesting and creative environments.

City, O’ City plans to accomplish this by being a coffeehouse, bar, patisserie and pizzeria joint. Maybe the world’s first.

Don’t tell the Real World kids. They’ll come back to town and get drunk there.

Three girls and a ‘boarder

More than a few heads turned on the slopes of Vail last week as Olympic gold medal snowboarder Shaun White came down the rails with Holly, Bridget and Kendra.

They’re Hugh Hefner’s pallies on the E channel’s “The Girls Next Door.”

They left the Playboy Mansion to learn how to ‘board in Vail, all taped for an upcoming episode on the show.

I wasn’t there, dagnabbit, but Denver Post reporter Scott Willoughby was and you can read all about it in his story in Tuesday’s Outdoor Extremes article.

Have you seen this man?

Prime One Twenty One steakhouse hadn’t seen Democratic rainmaker Steve Farber in so long, owner Scott Fickling put his picture on a milk carton – which he presented to Farber when he finally came in Tuesday night.

Laughs all around.
