The Arena Football League executive committee selected Colorado Crush co-owner John Elway as chairman of the committee at the AFL board meetings in Miami.

The executive committee works closely with commissioner David Baker on league matters and generally votes on all issues before they are presented to the full board.

Elway succeeds Los Angeles Avengers owner Casey Wasserman, who rotated out as chairman after serving in the post for almost three years. Elway also rotates off as chairman of the rules and competition committee, although he remains a member of that committee.

CSU golfer Weston wins playoff, tournament

Aaron Weston of Colorado State birdied the first playoff hole to top off a final-round 64 and claim medalist honors Tuesday at the Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah.

Weston, ranked 38th in the nation in the Golfstat Cup standings, beat Jacksonville’s Duncan Stewart, the country’s 10th-ranked player, in the playoff after shooting the low round of the day to tie Stewart at 9-under-par 135. Host Southern Utah shot a final-round 280 for a total of 14-under 562, three shots better than runner-up Denver.

AFA baseball team makes coaching changes

Air Force baseball head coach Mike Hutcheon promoted assistant coach Scott Marchand to pitching coach and hired Chandler Rose as an assistant coach.

Marchand, a former head coach at Regis High School, takes over the pitching staff duties after former assistant Ryan Thompson was hired as head coach at Mid-American Nazarene (Kan.) University. Rose comes to the academy from Florida Gulf Coast University.
