The No. 7-ranked D’Evelyn Jaguars need to take care of business and get a little help to win at least a share of the Class 4A Jefferson County League title.

Andrew Hooper did that business for the Jags, setting a school record with 38 points as D’Evelyn throttled Conifer 72-37. The 6-foot-10 University of Denver signee sank five 3-pointers and shot 9-for-9 at the free-throw line.

The help, however, didn’t arrive, as fifth-ranked Ralston Valley went on the road to defeat Evergreen 68-52 behind 21 points from sophomore Pierce Hornung to stay atop the league standings.

Green Mountain got 19 points from Trent Lovell to edge Arvada West 61-54 in a key 5A Jeffco matchup.

In DPL action, Montbello ripped Thomas Jefferson 83-51, as the Spartans’ starters combined for just 20 points.

Levi Knutson scored 39 points in Arapahoe’s 65-43 victory over Highlands Ranch in 5A Continental League action.

In Colorado Springs, sixth- ranked Widefield avenged its only loss in its past 14 games with an 80-65 victory over 4A rival and No. 1-ranked Harrison. Class 5A’s fifth-ranked Palmer went on the road to defeat Pine Creek 58-51.

Class 2A Kiowa blanked Christian Fellowship in the second half en route to a 68-2 victory.

Girls

Second-ranked Highlands Ranch made 21-of-22 free throws and got a game-high 26 points from Alyssa Fressle for a 70-62 victory over Class 5A Continental League rival Arapahoe.

Grand Junction won city bragging rights with a 52-51 victory over Central (G.J.) behind 18 points from Marlena Diaz.

In 3A, Valley upset No. 7 Bishop Machebeuf 49-48 despite shooting 6-for-13 from the charity stripe.
