CASTLE ROCK, Colo.-
A judge on Thursday rejected a request to unseal court documents in the case of an 18-year-old facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of her newborn.
The Denver Post had requested that the file on Addie Kubisiak of Parker be made public. Douglas County District Judge Nancy Hopf agreed with prosecutors and defense attorneys that would violate the privacy of the infant’s father, who is under age 18.
Douglas County investigators have said they believe Kubisiak gave birth in a car last fall, but no information about the infant’s death has been released. Investigators have said they believe Kubisiak kept the baby’s body in her dorm room at Western State College in Gunnison, where she was a student.
The judge did make public the original complaint in the case, which listed the infant’s name as Tristen, The Post reported on its Web site Thursday.
Kubisiak also faces charges of child abuse resulting in death and concealing a death. The murder charge carries a sentence of death or life in prison without parole.
Kubisiak’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 2.
