Home’s auction aids schools

Profits from the auction of a custom home in Observatory Park will be donated to University Park Elementary and Rise schools.

A silent auction and open house will be held at the home, 2511 S. Garfield St., at 6 p.m. March 10. The four-bedroom, 4 1/2-bath house, built by Scott Homes and owned by local real-estate investment firm the Crux Co., is on the market for $1.1 million.

In addition to the home, other items to be auctioned include hotel stays, sculptures and wine. All money raised will go to the schools.

Lone Tree buys office building

The city of Lone Tree paid $6.4 million for Park Meadows Court, a two-story, 42,994-square-foot office building at 9285 Teddy Lane.

The rapidly growing city was in the process of identifying alternatives for its municipal building when Crimson Services, representing owner Kaufman Realty Group, approached it about the deal.

The building’s size and design work well, officials said, for the city’s short- and long-term space requirements over the next few years. The city will receive rental income from space it does not require.

CoStar to ID energy-efficient

CoStar Group Inc., a provider of real-estate research and information, will start identifying which of the more than 2 million properties in its database are Energy Star-rated.

The Energy Star rating is the most recognized national metric for evaluating a building’s energy efficiency.

Energy consumption from the operation of commercial buildings accounts for 18 percent of all greenhouse-gas emissions in the United States, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

In a typical office building, energy represents 30 percent of operating costs – its most manageable operating expense.

Last year, CoStar began highlighting commercial properties that are LEED-certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
