The Connecticut Sun of the Women’s National Basketball Association re-signed 5-foot-6 point guard Jamie Carey to a training camp contract, the team said.
Carey, a former Ms. Colorado Basketball from Horizon High School, will return for a third season with the Sun. She played 24 games last season and averaged 1.3 assists.
Carey, who played at Stanford and Texas, served this season as an assistant at Horizon.
Barnett, Jacob resign prep coaching jobs
Two Colorado Class 5A schoolboy basketball coaches – Steve Barnett at Regis in Aurora and Jason Jacob at Chaparral in Parker – will not continue in their current positions. Barnett, a former 20-year coach at Douglas County in Castle Rock, led Regis after retiring as a teacher. Jacob, whose Wolverines made the Great Eight in the 2005-06 season, has accepted an assistant principal’s job.

Nets assign rookie center to 14ers
The New Jersey Nets sent rookie Mile Ilic, a 7-foot-1 center from Serbia and Montenegro, to their NBA Development League affiliate, the Colorado 14ers. The move marked the Nets’ first assignment this season to the NBADL. Ilic was a second-round pick, the 43rd overall, by the Nets in the 2005 NBA draft.
The 14ers ended a four-game home losing streak with a 119-94 win over the Dakota Wizards. Colorado set franchise records with 35 assists and 10 blocked shots.
