DENVER-

The FBI arrested a former Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy Tuesday on child pornography charges, federal prosecutors said.

A federal grand jury indicted Douglas Morrill Peek, 53, Monday on charges of transportation, possession, distribution and receipt of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver.

Most of the counts were punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison and up to a $250,000 fine.

The indictment accused Peek of using the Internet to transport a movie with child pornography.

He also was suspected of possessing pornographic images, including toddlers being forced to engage in sexual activity; sending a pornographic image over the Internet; and knowingly receiving e-mail with child pornography.

Peek was suspended from his position with the Arapahoe County Detentions Bureau on Oct. 31 after sheriff’s officials learned of the allegations. He resigned Jan. 3.

A phone number for Peek could not be found. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had retained an attorney.
