Diana Lopez of Regis was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s player of the year, the first time in conference history a player has won the award three straight years. Her twin sister, Denise, was named defensive player of the year, the first time anyone has claimed that award back to back. Nebraska-Kearney’s Dusty Jura received the men’s player of the year honor, and Terrell Burgess of Metro State was given the defensive player of the year award.
Memorial service for J. Allen Patten
A public memorial service for J. Allen “Pat” Patten has been scheduled for 10 a.m. March 10 at the East Stadium Club Room at Folsom Field on the University of Colorado campus.
Patten coached wrestling and was athletic director at Boulder High School over a span of 36 years, retiring in 1984. While at Boulder High, Patten was instrumental in developing a wrestling exchange program with Japan, and he organized and directed the first Junior World Wrestling Championships held at CU in 1969. He was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
Patten, 86, died Saturday from complications from asthma and pneumonia.
