BRIGHTON, Colo.-
A nonprofit organization known as Colorado’s only quality of life, no- kill, free roam animal sanctuary is in danger of having to move — with the blame going to several weeks of severe winter weather.
The Creative Acres Animal Sanctuary is a 44-acre site near Brighton that cares for more than 300 animals — including cats, dogs, emus, ferrets and horses.
Director Maxine Mager says the property is now in foreclosure because weeks of snow and wind forced the cancellation of several fund-raisers, and some donations had to be used for snow removal.
Mager has operated Creative Acres for nearly 20 years, and says the sanctuary will go on — even if she has to sleep in a tent.
But she says some of the sanctuary’s older animals might NOT survive a move.
Those interested in helping to keep the sanctuary operating without moving may contribute to Creative Acres, P.O. Box 1143, Brighton, CO 80601.
