Dillon Roy turned a steal in his offensive zone into the game-winner as the 20th-ranked University of Denver lacrosse team downed visiting Villanova 12-11 in double overtime Saturday in the Pioneer Face-Off Classic at Peter Barton Stadium.

Denver (2-2) rallied late when John Dickenson scored a game-tying goal with one second remaining in regulation. Joey Murray led Denver with six goals, and it was his assist that set up Dickenson late in the game. Villanova (1-2) was led by Eric Heidenberger’s four goals.

No. 19 Maryland-Baltimore County jumped to a 4-0 lead and earned a 13-7 win over Air Force in the tournament’s other game.

The Retrievers (2-0) were led by Drew Westervelt’s three goals and four assists. Air Force (1-1) got two goals and two assists from Griffin Nevitt.

Baseball

Nick Walker hit a two-out, two-run double in the ninth inning to rally Colorado Mines to a 6-4 win over host Regis in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Softball

Colorado State routed Utah State 10-1 and Northern Colorado 9-0 in the first two games of the CSU Tournament in Fort Collins.

Five Rams doubled and Robyn Mask hit a home run in the Rams’ win over Utah State.
