LAKEWOOD, Colo.-
A man and a woman were in custody Monday on allegations they gave marijuana to the woman’s 6-year-old son, authorities said.
Regina Martinez, 25, and Jason Ladehoff, 21, are due in court March 13 and 26, respectively, to face charges stemming from their Jan. 9 arrest, according to court documents obtained by media.
Martinez and Ladehoff face several charges, including child abuse and providing marijuana to a person under 15 years old. Ladehoff also faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute.
“I don’t think its right, I mean nobody should put their kid through that kind of life,” Ladehoff said of his stepson during a jailhouse interview with station KDVR-TV. “It is not true,” he said of the allegations.
Police said they were tipped off to the family after a man reported going to the couple’s apartment to buy 1 1/2 ounces of marijuana and seeing Ladehoff offering the boy marijuana.
Ladehoff told KDVR-TV that an acquaintance let the boy smoke marijuana.
According to the affidavit, the boy said he had smoked marijuana from a pink pipe that his stepfather gave him and he later told a doctor that he had smoked marijuana and drank alcohol with his family on several occasions, primarily on weekends.
