Jeffrey Kahane has canceled his appearances as piano soloist this weekend with the Colorado Symphony, because of what a spokeswoman described as “severe hypertension.”
Kahane, who serves as music director of the symphony and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, has also canceled his March 15-18 engagements with the California ensemble.
Christopher O’Riley, an internationally renowned pianist and host of National Public Radio’s classical-music program, “From the Top,” has agreed to substitute for Kahane for this weekend’s program in Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1.
The performances, with conductor laureate Marin Alsop on the podium, are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Boettcher Concert Hall. For more information, call 303-623-7876 or visit coloradosymphony.org.
