Aurora Schools to Hire Former Military to Teach

Aurora Public Schools becomes the fifth district in the country to launch the “Hire in Advance Program,” allowing members of the military to get hired for teaching jobs as many as three years before they retire.

The program, which starts this Friday with a ceremony at Aurora Frontier K-8 School, is part of the federal Troops to Teachers program. It allows military personnel to transfer into the classroom immediately after they retire from their duties.

Following an interview and background check, qualified Hire in Advance candidates will be guaranteed a position in the district. Specific schools are not guaranteed.

Also participating are school districts in Las Vegas, Virginia, Newark, Maryland and Washington, D. C.
