The committee charged with hosting the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver has chosen the finance director for Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley to direct its finances here, officials announced this morning.
Melissa Koenigsberg has been named the host committee’s chief financial officer and finance director.
“We are very fortunate to have an individual of Melissa’s caliber and experience for this historic event in our city,” City Councilwoman Elbra Wedgeworth, president of the host committee, said in a statement.
Koenigsberg will join volunteers already actively seeking $55 million in cash and donated services and infrastructure, such as communications equipment, in advance of the Aug. 25-28 convention to be held at the Pepsi Center.
So far, lead fund-raising volunteer Steve Farber says the committee has secured promises for about $23 million.
Koenigsberg put together a finance plan that raised more than $17 million for O’Malley’s gubernatorial race. She has also served as finance director for Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar, who is also on the host committee, and worked as a regional finance director during former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards’ 2004 bid for president.
