Boston – Sixteen and counting.

Everybody seems to be counting, except Avalanche center Paul Stastny, who can tie Teemu Selanne’s NHL rookie record with a point tonight in Buffalo against the Sabres.

That would be his 17th game in a row with at least a point, but Stastny said he will gladly trade in any points he gets tonight for two points as a team against the Sabres.

Stastny tied the Avalanche franchise rookie record, set by his father, Peter, with the Quebec Nordiques in 1980.

“We’ve got to keep winning, that’s all that matters right now,” said Stastny, who assisted on Brett Clark’s winning goal in Colorado’s 2-0 victory over Boston on Tuesday night. “Tonight was another good win, but it’s going to be a tough test against Buffalo and we just have to put this one behind us now.”

Stastny, who has 63 points in 67 games, just keeps getting better. Forget any rookie wall, the former Denver Pioneer seems to create something good on every shift – be it a scoring chance or a good defensive play.

“He’s got a hockey sense that you can’t teach,” Avs coach Joel Quenneville said.

Said Avs captain Joe Sakic: “You watch him play and he does everything right. A young guy at that age, they might have a couple bumps, but he definitely plays well beyond his years.”

Bourque on hand

Former Boston and Colorado Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque was at the game. Bourque visited the Avs’ dressing room, with only Sakic, Milan Hejduk and Scott Parker still on the team he won a Stanley Cup with in 2001.

Bourque works for the Bruins part time in a corporate entertainment capacity.
