Forbes scores with “different” article

The Denver Post is to be complimented for printing a “different” article on high school sports and the influence they might have on students’ attitudes and education. Looking into the change at Aurora Central, Brian Forbes highlighted the quality impact high school sports can have. The same influences can be found with outstanding band and orchestra programs, drama departments, quality debate teams, outstanding curricular programs and even chess teams. Sports are more than box scores.

Serving up a dud

Your recent Associated Press article about Wimbledon agreeing to pay women the same as men omitted the fact that men’s matches are best-of-five sets whereas women’s are best-of-three sets. Therefore, the women will be receiving more per point than the men.

Karl is to blame

Mark Kiszla is blaming the wrong person in his most recent attack on Carmelo Anthony (March 6). It is true Anthony often does not play much defense, but he plays hard, runs hard, plays hurt and scores 30-plus most games. Kiszla should be questioning what George Karl does.
