Skiing Taos can be painful, especially if you tumble anywhere on the West Basin Ridge. Falls there are long and bruising ordeals. Good thing Taos has Tim. Right there at the base, Tim’s Stray Dog Cantina has been burying agony since 1989 with its Tim’s Painkillers concoctions. After a couple of those spirited beverages, the only pain you will feel is the fire raging in your mouth after dragging your chips through Tim’s salsa. (If you bemoan the lack of heat in almost every salsa you taste in Colorado, visit New Mexico and you’ll be moaning, all right.) The sushi appetizers – that’s right, Mexican sushi – are chile rellenos rolled in a flour tortilla with sour cream and sliced like colorful sushi. Tim’s green chile is impeccable, and the breakfasts get you ready for your on-the-hill beating.
Get there — 105 Sutton Place, Taos Ski Valley, 100 yards from the slopes.
