Appreciation
Thursday has been designated Sportsmen Appreciation Day at the State Capitol, an event highlighted by an address by Gov. Bill Ritter and a series of exhibits by various wildlife groups. Ritter is scheduled to address a 10:30 a.m. gathering on the west wing of the main floor of the Capitol. Earlier, representatives of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Division of Wildlife, Colorado Bowhunters Association, National Wildlife Federation, Colorado Trappers Association and Colorado Sportsmen Wildlife Fund will display information about their respective organizations. Sportsmen representatives also will meet with legislators from both the House and Senate.
New chairman
Tom Burke, a seven-year member of the Colorado Wildlife Commission, has been elected chairman for 2007. Burke is a resident of Grand Junction and a former state chairperson for Ducks Unlimited. Claire O’Neal of Holyoke was elected vice-chair and Robert Bray of Redvale was named secretary.
Phone correction
In an article last week about the March 31 banquet of the Denver Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the phone number for ticket reservations was listed incorrectly. The correct number is 720-344-4081.
