It did not take long for former University of Colorado men’s basketball coach Ricardo Patton to find employment.
According to a story Sunday night on ESPN.com, Patton will be named coach at Northern Illinois today.
Patton replaces Rob Judson, who was fired after going 7-23 last season, 4-12 in the Mid-American Conference. Judson was at Northern Illinois for six seasons.
Patton, who submitted his resignation last October effective at the end of this season, finished with a 184-160 career record at Colorado after taking over as interim coach on Jan. 16, 1996. He was promoted to head coach on March 5.
His final season was his worst, record-wise, as the Buffs finished 7-20, including an 81-71 loss to Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament to end the season.
While at Colorado, Patton’s teams made the NCAA Tournament twice and the NIT four times. His best season was 1996-97, when CU went 22-10 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
